Tuvalu
Capital: Funafuti
- The name Tuvalu is often read as eight standing together. Eight of the nine islands were once inhabited.
- Funafuti is the world's easternmost capital of a sovereign state, and the country's government sits on this large atoll.
- Boreholes drilled on Funafuti in 1896 to 1898, known as Darwin's Drill, were made to study how coral reefs form.
