- Burj Khalifa opened on 4 January 2010 and took the title of the world's tallest building, reaching 828 metres to its roof.
- Pearl diving once gave work to many people along the Gulf coast, until the trade collapsed in the 1930s.
- Dubai Creek is a natural inlet that was the city's only harbour and split it into Deira and Bur Dubai.
